What Can I Do About Every Movie I Want Is Affected by NTD/DMCA Takedowns?

07-30-20

There are only three things you can do. One is to save your pennies and buy them - until movies are no longer available on plastic anymore. Then, use the best solution to this problem overall - purchase a Hardware Video Recording Device (see below). Finally, get lucky AND know somebody in the scene, and are able to sign up with a private usenet provider and NZB indexer on the darkweb. And most probably you will need a trustworthy VPN provider on a private protocol. TOR is not a private protocol.

It's the reality of things nowadays. More and more automated requests are being made to remove content from Usenet. Also, more and more content providers are not releasing their work on plastic anymore, and instead are having their content streamed from unbreakable sites such as NetFlix instead. And par files offer no solution either.

Why are non-US providers all subject to takedown activity?

Interpol and international agreements. The providers can’t do anything about this. Because if they do not comply, they have a good chance that they will be charged, and will probably have to close their doors. Like YIFY and others.

Automatic Download Programs

A non darkweb/scene workaround, for the moment, are automatic download programs. For example, SickChillSickRageRadarr, and CouchPotato. As soon as something new is posted on Usenet, these programs can download it right away before it is taken down. However, this means the machine they reside on needs to be a local server that you control that is always on, or else a VPS on a trustworthy cloud provider. AWS is not considered trustworthy. It also means that you will need to adjust the software's Search Frequency to no lower than 15, otherwise your nzb provider may ban you.

Why Not Use Manual Search on nzbindex.com or binsearch.com?

Manual search on nzbindex.com or binsearch.com for scene releases is often of no use, because these downloads are often already deleted.

SpotNet or Spotweb

Often, uploaders will hide their titles inside nested folders, or use GUIDs for their filenames, in order to make their uploads less visible to NTD/DMCA detection. However, if their upload is also registered on well-known spotter websites - for example, Nzbsrus.com or Dognzbd - then the NTD/DMCA detectives can find them also. They use the same software to find content that you do.

NZB magic

A number of posters, such as the QoQ team, post their downloads with the NZBmagic program, so that these downloads are harder for the NTD/DMCA detectives to find. Unfortunately, this tool only works with Spotnet and Spotlite, and the NTD/DMCA detectives have these tools also.

Which Usenet providers suffer from DMCA?

ALL of them. Except maybe one or two in China. Because they are often resellers.

So, if I'm paying for a usenet provider and an nzb indexing service, what's the bottom line?

Essentially, and mostly, you are paying the providers to store and manage broken content that is unwatchable. Throwing money away.

Hardware Video Recording Devices

This is the way of the future. It will get to the point where a hardware video recording device will be the only way to capture video content, as plastic disappears and streaming video becomes essentially unbreakable. The content providers can never block you from viewing their content on a video screen, or else you wouldn't be able to watch the content you paid for. It's called 'screen scraping'. Yes, there is software that can do this, but it can be blocked and the quality of the output cannot compare to hardware. Hardware video recording devices plugin between the incoming content and the video monitor that you use to watch video content. As of this writing, we are starting to see devices that can even record UHD4K content, which requires specially hacked ripping hardware to capture off of plastic. So if you have the money to buy a high-end device, these will be available for many years until either the governments make them illegal or content providers finally give up recording their content and just develop plays presented live in a theater, like in the days before film cameras.

The downside of course, is that you have to wait until some streaming provider makes available the movie that you want. But, it's better than nothing.
