General settings for your machine are established under Appearance tab of Display Properties in Control Panel, where you can switch between Classic and Windows XP style. Whether or not a specific application also uses XP Visual styles can be built into an application or enabled using a 'manifest' file. If a properly named and constructed .manifest file is found in the same path as that application, XP visual styles will be used. The name for the .manifest file should be .manifest For Search and Replace the file is SR32.exe.manifest The content of the .manifest is fairly straightforward. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnwxp/html/xptheming.asp for more information. Enable Visual Style on XP: -------------------------- If the Search and Replace installer detects the OS as XP, SR32.exe.manifest is put in place by default. To manually enable Visual Styles support, copy 'SR32.exe.manifest' from 'SR_XPVisualStyle.zip' into the same the same path as SR32.exe. The default path is C:\Tools\SR. The next time you start Search and Replace it will use the XP Visual Styles. Disable Visual Style on XP: --------------------------- Exit Search and Replace and delete (or rename) 'SR32.exe.manifest'.
